Britwell youth centre manager gets accolade for 40 years of effort

Paula Murphy, a community worker at Britwell has received a High Sheriff Award for her dedication to Britwell over 40 years. 

Paula is the manager of the Britwell Youth and Community Project (BYP) and was handed the award by Berkshire's High Sheriff, Victoria Fishburn. 

Paula, who is based at the centre in Wentworth Avenue, began as an administration assistant at the former Wentworth Youth Centre back in 1976. 

She has been instrumental in ensuring youngsters have access to a youth club in Britwell, keeping it funded through difficult times and utilising lottery grants as well as the help of local businesses. 

Paula said: "It is absolutely fantastic. It really is. 

"It is great for Britwell too. I met so many people at the presentation who were worthy and do so much in their communities." 

A spokesperson for the BYP added: "There is no doubt that her personal commitment to the club has ensured its success and recognition. 

"The success is far reaching and impacts on many different groups and organizations.Both Thames Valley Police and Aik Saath (Slough charity) recognize the influence Paula has had on local young people."
