Britwell – January 2023

30 January 2023

Thank you to Qudsia for this brilliant report!

The new year has been off to a busy start at BYCP! Dance sessions have kicked off on Tuesday evenings for the young people and have been well-received by all. We were able to secure a male dance instructor which has helped male young people more interested in ‘giving it a go’ and it has also helped break down any stereotypes around men in this form of art.

Boxing sessions continue to be a ‘BIG HIT’ on Thursday evenings as well!

The Knife Angel has arrived in Slough for the month of January to help raise awareness about violent crime. Standing 27ft (8m) high, the Knife Angel is made from about 100,000 bladed weapons collected through knife amnesty bins from 43 police forces.

BYCP Recording Studio Technician Stephan Ambrose took young people from BYCP to see the Knife Angel to help create more dialogue around the dangers surrounding knife crime, gang violence and substance misuse. They also had the opportunity to perform music they have produced around the subject.

Berkshire Youth are supporting the important initiative, Knife Crime Matters in Slough, to create awareness about knife crime, its causes, risks and consequences.

As we are winding down the first month of 2023, the staff are quickly making preps for the upcoming school holiday club which will take place from Monday13 February  – Friday 17 February, 11am-3pm.  Evening sessions will run as per normal.
