Going Back to my Roots! Youth Worker, Jessica
28 October 2021
Jessica writes: “It was great to go back to Tilehurst Junior Youth Club this month to deliver a SPLAT session and to check in with Dennis who was my youth worker! I attended Tilehurst Junior Youth Club as a young person throughout primary school (back in 2004!) and went back to volunteer there as a Junior Leader throughout my A Levels. It was here that I met Holly, who delivered Berkshire Youth’s healthy lifestyle programme. After taking part in this, I wanted to know what else Berkshire Youth did and I did three weeks of work experience with them in summer 2014 – if it wasn’t for my involvement in Tilehurst Junior Youth Club, I wouldn’t be doing the job I do now!
“When I joined Berkshire Youth back in 2014, I was a part time Sports, Leisure and Activities Team (SPLAT) worker so it was great to deliver a session again, and that the session was at my old youth club. The young people were great and joined in with all the activities, dodgeball being their favourite! We also played parachute games, football and skittles, it was great to see young people from a variety of local primary schools socialising together and getting involved in activities.
“Anyone looking for volunteering opportunities in Tilehurst, this youth club would be a great place to start and they are always welcoming new volunteers. Youth clubs like this one could not run without the support of local volunteers. If you are interested, please email Dennis at Tilehurst Junior Youth Club. ”
Well done, Jessica, we bet they loved welcoming you back!
