New DWP Youth Hub Opens at the Waterside Centre

30 September 2021

Berkshire jobseekers under the age of 25 will be able to access extra support in their search for work thanks to a new Youth Hub that was launched this week at Berkshire Youth’s Waterside Centre.

The hub, which is based in the newly-refurbished youth and community centre in the heart of Newbury, is part of the UK Government’s multi-billion-pound Plan for Jobs, and is one of dozens of similar hubs being opened across the country.

Young jobseekers will be able to take advantage of a comprehensive service, with Youth Employability Coaches from Jobcentre Plus providing them with tailored support to find work or reskill for alternative careers, and alerting them to available training opportunities in the locality.

The Newbury hub will operate Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm, and partner organisations based at the Waterside Centre will also be able to offer guidance on wider issues related to unemployment, including budgeting, debt management and housing.

Minister for Employment, Mims Davies MP said: “Through the DWP Youth Offer, which includes new Youth Hubs like this one as well as the Kickstart scheme, we are giving young jobseekers in Berkshire the support they need to find employment and access vital training so they can get their lives on track.

“This is a challenging time for many young people, but with our Plan for Jobs creating new opportunities, boosting skills, and supporting young people getting into work and help them progress, we’re ready to push to build back better.”

David Seward, Berkshire Youth CEO, added: “Berkshire Youth is delighted to be working in Partnership with the DWP on the launch of the Youth Hub.  The recent refurbishment of the Waterside Centre, in the heart of our community, has enabled this opportunity to happen. Berkshire Youth is excited about the potential future opportunities for our young people here at Waterside.”
