News from The Wayz

29 April 2021

We caught up with Gareth who told us what’s been happening at The Wayz this month.

A group of young people engaged over a number of weeks to reflect on and support their wellbeing throughout lockdown and following the impact of Covid-19. The group engaged in online sessions and worked towards daily challenges that were set. Each young person tracked their contributions and shared them amongst the group. Here is a picture of the group, now working towards creating a youth-led support sheet around mental health and the importance of exercise and maintaining routine.

The aim was to empower young people to support their own wellbeing, by giving them the information and tool to maintain and reflect on their wellbeing. It was a great programme and great to be able to do a face-to-face focused group session to move their project forward. This is a great project that will encourage and build confidence in the young people’s leadership and will also create a support for many more.

Young person: “With The Wayz we have done a lot of things despite the lockdown and all the Covid-related stuff. We have been set challenges weekly that keep us motivated and keep us healthy. We have done many Zoom calls and spoke about our personal wellbeing. Sleep is a big thing we looked at and how we can help ourselves get more sleep and get into a healthy routine. We have started a project within The Wayz where our aim is to get others motivated and keep positive during this Covid-related lifestyle we have entered. This is a team working project where we have to work together and to help ourselves and others. This has helped us because we are also taking in the information we are giving out which is keeping us positive and on top of our health and wellbeing. I am confident to say we have all enjoyed doing these things within The Wayz and happy that we have come together to help ourselves and others, and bring us all closer together as a community.”
