News from The Wayz
28 January 2021
The Wayz have continued their great work and commitment to the young people in the Bracknell area since our last email newsletter.
The Wayz is continuing to support young people through the pandemic via online platforms. They have been able to offer a ‘Your Move’ programme to their young people, aged 14 to 17, thanks to funding from Get Berkshire Active. The Wayz supported young people as they learnt about emotional intelligence and its ability to support them in becoming ‘work ready’. Additionally, they have delivered over nine weeks of Zoom sessions, by Lee from Mobile Team Challenge, a company using experiential learning and appreciative inquiry. Through this, young people will develop their ability to recognise, understand and handle their own emotions and others’ emotions too. So far young people have learnt about self-awareness, communication, and taking personal responsibility for their leadership performance.
Gareth Mepham, Area Youth and Community Worker, commented: “It has been amazing to see the continued engagement from the young people and to witness them explore and challenge themselves and each other. At a time when next steps for young people are sometimes overlooked, this is a creative support and development tool for both the current time and for the future. A hugely interactive session each week and something I would recommend to other projects working with young people. Thank you to Get Berkshire Active and Mobile Team Challenge for the opportunity.”
Get Berkshire Active are always looking for further groups of young people. Therefore, if you have a group of young people aged 16 to 25 who are suitable for this training, or you would like to find out more, please contact Chelsea Piggott by email.
Paige, Youth Worker at the Wayz added: “The weekly Zoom calls are also providing young people with the opportunity to see each other socially and to take part in activities. FutureProof, Youth Achievement Awards and the Elevate Programme have been delivered to young people over the past few weeks and they are all running successfully, with young people engaging very well. Detached work is also taking place twice a week, with the team visiting local areas offering verbal support to young people in the local community.”
