Reading – Community Consultation for Quality of Life Research Project

28 February 2022

We are delighted to be supporting researchers as they develop a new, map-based model of community consultation for Reading. The major research project, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, will take place both online and face-to-face.

Please take part online here.

You can visit their urban room, Your Place Our Place, throughout March at Broad Street Mall, Reading, RG1 7QE (on the ground floor by Poundland). This will involve community consultation through activities and a digital mapping tool.

What is an Urban Room?

Urban rooms are spaces in towns and cities which offer local communities a place to exhibit and discuss issues that affect the community around future development.

This Urban Room in Broad Street Mall will be providing information to the local community about key issues such as the Reading Town Centre Strategy, offering a place for discussion to encourage awareness and connection between various communities. The activities in the Urban Room are based on the weekly topic decided from their analysis of the Quality of Life framework and the Reading Town Centre Strategy by the local council. Quality of Life framework is a set of principles established by the Quality of Life Foundation.

Below is the schedule of events:

  • Week 1 WELCOME / INTRODUCTION AND BUSINESS COMMUNITY / Tuesday 1 March – Saturday 5 March 2022
  • Week 2 HEALTH AND WELLBEING / Tuesday 8 March – Saturday 12 March 2022
  • Week 3 CULTURE AND HERITAGE / Tuesday 15 March –  Saturday 19 March 2022
  • Week 4 CLIMATE CHANGE / Tuesday 22 March – Saturday 26 March 2022
  • Week 5 CELEBRATION/ FUTURE OF READING AND CLOSE / Tuesday 29 March – Thursday 31 March 2022

Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 10am – 5pm; Thursday late opening 12 – 8pm.

You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram.  If you have any questions, please contact them via their social media or email Nisa.

We would love as many young people to have their say on Reading – it is their future after all! Please share!
