See, Hear, Respond
28 January 2021
See Hear Respond is a partnership to help children, young people and families cope with the Covid-19 crisis.
Funded by the Department for Education , Barnardo’s are working with Berkshire Youth to ensure the See, Hear, Respond Partnership will quickly identify and support children, young people and families across Berkshire who are struggling to cope with the impacts of coronavirus.
Its aim is to provide early intervention before these children reach the threshold for statutory intervention.
The See, Hear, Respond Partnership was created during 2020 specifically to help children and young people in England who are experiencing harm and increased adversity during coronavirus, providing support to those who are not being seen by schools or other key agencies. Nationally, there is no minimum age threshold for referral.
Berkshire Youth are delivering to young people aged 10 to 18 years old who would benefit from crisis support, support engaging in education or involvement in small group work around a given topic.
We are also delivering detached youth work in those communities where support may be needed to keep the most vulnerable young people safe.
During the initial stages of the programme, we support 1,642 young people across all work streams. We hope that during the current lockdown we can continue to identify and reach those young people who need our support to stop them falling through the gaps.
Our programme is being overseen by our Operations Director, Sarah Emery, who commented: “Our youth workers are well known locally, currently working with young people across 26 of our secondary school settings in Berkshire as well as through the detached work they deliver across our communities. This funding has enhanced the capacity of delivery to some of the most vulnerable young people in our community. Covid-19 has had a real impact on our young people and the current lockdown situation is also adding pressure. We know young people need our support and this funding is enabling us to act now.”
