Waterside – February 2023

27 February 2023

Many thanks to our Youth and Community Manager, Kelly, for this update!

I’d like to give a huge shout out to Waterside Centre’s Young Leaders for their immense effort to support the Waterside Series events this month.

The racing events are organised by Newbury Canoe Club and actually originate from Waterside Centre, so it’s been fantastic to have young people lead the way when to hosting the events from their own centre.

Over the past two events, we have had 14 Young Leaders volunteer their time to set up and pack down the facilities, welcome participants, serve food and drink from the Wooden Spoon café and even bake cakes to sell as part of the menu offer.

With over 300 paddlers competing in the events, plus their support crews and family members, you can imagine how busy the events are and just how much the young people have accomplished.

I’m so proud that our young people are able to represent Waterside and support their local community with confidence.
