Waterside Boost from Community Infrastructure Levy
28 July 2021
After nearly ten years of trying to secure the future of the Waterside Centre as a resource for young people and the community of Newbury, we are delighted that we have finally reached the end of the refurbishments.
It seems a long time now since the fundraising campaign was launched at the House of Lords in 2019. Our fundraising efforts were immediately hit by the global pandemic but, thanks to the commitment, perseverance and tenacity of the Berkshire Youth President and team members, we managed to secure a contract to refurbish the Waterside Centre.
Our CEO, David Seward, commented: “The contribution from West Berkshire Council through the Community Infrastructure Levy is a great use of builders’ contribution and everyone at Berkshire Youth will be working hard to secure the remaining £250,000 to cover the full project cost of £1.4 million.
“Berkshire Youth are delighted to receive this support and would like to thank Lynne Doherty, Leader of West Berkshire Council and Dominic Boeck, Lead Member for Children, Young People and Education at West Berkshire Council, for their support. After so many years of cuts to services for young people, we truly hope this is the start of further investment in our young people.”
