Youth Development and Community Engagement Update

27 April 2023

Thank you to Kerrie, our Youth Development and Community Engagement Worker, for this update.

Brightwalton Youth Club
With the support of Berkshire Youth, Brightwalton launched their new youth club this month. Nineteen children attended the first session and two young people volunteered. The children were a range of primary school ages and enjoyed air hockey, pool, board games and making Morse code bracelets. There was free fruit provided alongside a tuck shop.

In the next few weeks, they will be launching their ‘design a logo’ challenge and SPLAT sessions being delivered by an MNR Coaching sports coach.

The club is held on term time on Mondays at Brightwalton Village Hall, 5.30 – 6.30pm.

Thatcham Community Youth Conversation
Berkshire Youth and Thatcham Town Council would like to thank all the youth organisations that joined us for the Thatcham Community Youth Conversation last week. It was good to hear all the great support already being given to the local young people and some interesting ideas were discussed. We plan to hold regular networking events for the local youth organisations in Thatcham, if you would like to attend these or be kept up to date, please email kerrie.hiscock@berkshireyouth.org.uk.

Waterside Coronation Celebration
Exciting plans are being made for the King’s Coronation Celebration at Waterside Centre in Newbury on Saturday 6 May.

Come and be part of our community coronation celebration, with a day of fun, play and art. Everyone welcome and activities for all. We look forward to seeing you!

Earth Day
To celebrate Earth Day, Newbury-based company, Micro Focus, came along to Waterside Centre for an afternoon of ‘green’ activities. Their employees made seed balls which will be scattered in grey spaces, allowing wildflowers to grow and attract wildlife. Micro Focus also kindly provided soil and plants to decorate the outdoor area of Waterside, and volunteered their time to plant these. Thank you Micro Focus!
