Team News

29 September 2022

We are thrilled to welcome three new members to the team: Keli-Jo, Kenmore and Sasha all join us as youth workers at Waterside Centre.

This month, get to know Keli-Jo a little better here, with Kenmore and Sasha to be featured in our October and November newsletters.

The Waterside team (pictured) came together for the first time earlier this week, and are excited about working together to continue to create fantastic opportunities for young people and the wider community.

We also said goodbye to Kelly Ko, our Business Intern. Here’s what she told us:

“This four weeks internship is really remarkable experience to me. In addition to using my artistic skills to make posters and other things throughout the internship, I also assisted with writing articles, shooting images for marketing purposes, and providing website advise. Throughout the weeks, Julie, the marketing manager, and Kelly, the youth and community manager, provided me a lot of advice and opportunities to try new things. Without their tutorials, I would not have been able to pick things up so quickly and finish them. I want to express my gratitude to them and the other staff members I interacted with for their wonderful assistance.

“The best part of this internship is meeting new people and getting their feedbacks at the Waterside Centre in Newbury. Their encouraging remarks and assistance demonstrate the important work Berkshire Youth is doing. I’m very glad that more kids are attending the activities; some of them even look forward to term-time sessions!”

We wish Kelly all the best in her future endeavours.

Back in June, we introduced you to Abbas, new youth worker in Slough – article here. We recently caught up with him to find out how he’s getting on:

“I am currently working in four schools in Slough, which are Slough & Eton, Beechwood School, Wexham School and Westgate. I have now met the students I will be working with and had a few sessions. In these sessions we have talked about what they done over the holidays, what they enjoy and what are their plans for this academic year. Once I find a sport or game they like doing I try to implement it into the sessions to get them talking easier. Most of the students / young people have been very positive about working with me during this year and achieving their potential.”

We are very grateful to be strengthening our super, supportive team all the time. We have some further vacancies to join us as a Youth Development Worker, Bracknell Youth Worker and Waterside Centre Caretaker – check them out here!
