About Berkshire Youth charity

Berkshire Youth has been serving the young people of Berkshire, delivering excellent and efficient youth support services for more than 80 years. We are proud of our track record and committed to building on it over the coming years to support young people make successful transitions to adulthood.

The Britwell Project is based at the heart of the Britwell Estate in Slough, an area of significant deprivation. It is a youth project providing services for up to 400 young people per week. The centre offers services and projects to young people and these have included in recent years (depending on funding availability):

  • Providing a safe non-threatening haven for young people to develop friendships, have fun, work and learn together – developing their own life skills and contributing to their local community. The facilities include a coffee bar, discussion areas, table and board games and a gym which hosts regular sports sessions, engaging young people in healthy group activities, such as cricket, football and basketball
  • Encouraging physical activity and competitive games as well as individual physical skills. Improving the fitness of young people and promote active and physically healthy lifestyles. In the past cycle clubs have been held, helping young people to repair and maintain bikes, and use hand tools. Young people are also helped to develop their IT skills, often in conjunction with Berkshire Youth, and depending on funding, eg involvement in leadership and volunteering projects resulting in an OCN accreditation
  • Sessions are also held to tackle issues such as gun, knife and gang crime. There are also music, art and film workshops
